    How to use the Film School Application Database & Tracker

    Thanks to our many members, the FilmSchool.org Application Database and Tracker consists of over 4,000 applications that date back to 2015, making it one of the most advantageous tools on the website. Its basic function is to track film schools’ rates of acceptance, minimum GPAs, accepted test scores, in addition to each program's many notification and decision dates.

I am Ketaki Kadam from India. I am a fresh Architect and an aspiring Production Designer.
I applied for the MFA Production Design program at AFI for Fall 2022. I received a mail for an interview at AFI.
I wanted to know about your experience with the AFI interview.
What do they look for in the students and what are all questions they ask during the interview?

Hi Ketaki! Good luck with your interview! It was such a friendly, comfortable conversation so the questions/answers came so naturally. It started with a “why AFI” and that discussion led to questions like “what got you into production design/what sparked that passion”, they asked about my technical design skill sets and what AFI could help me improve. We also spoke about favorite production designers/filmmakers. A big question was what collaborative project was challenging and how to overcome such challenges. That’s all of what I can remember because they asked a bunch of very casual questions throughout the call based on my answers.

From what I’ve gathered, the most important quality they’re looking for is passion and collaborative ability. Show you love production design, show you love AFI and your dream is to study there. And you’ll do great :)
