Cutting-Edge Film Equipment and Technology for NYU Tisch Film Students

Undergraduate and graduate film students rent cameras and supporting equipment at the Production Center; both divisions have equal access to the rental bays. The Animation Center provides the latest in animation tools and software, and film students can also rent light kits and drawing tablets.

The Post-Production Center houses high-quality sound and recording studios, editing labs, and editing suites. Foley Studios provides sound creation for animated and live-action films. Voice-over projects are recorded at the APR Studio. And in the Mix Room, sound engineers combine materials from Foley and/or APR Studios to help students prepare the final cut.

TV 12 houses the on-campus film and TV studio as well as undergraduate Sight & Sound: Studio classes. Film students build custom sets with props and other materials provided by NYU Tisch. Studio facilities A and B are outfitted with film equipment for live recordings, including three cameras with switchers.

The Teaching Sound Stage (TSS) offers cross-division cinematography classes, and students improve their lighting and directing skills. TSS has a classroom and a mock film set modeled after a home interior. A limited number of cinematography courses with lighting exercises are taught at the Todman Center at 35 W 4th St.

The Department Media Library (DML) is available to help film students resolve technical issues, book special event rooms, ask classroom/screening questions, and receive general maintenance support Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
