NYU Tisch Cost of Attendance, Financial Aid, and Scholarships for 2026 Entry
NYU Tisch offers various scholarship and fellowships for incoming students. Undergraduates can receive need-based financial aid, while graduates can receive both merit scholarships and need-based financial aid. The University recommends all applicants submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible.
Veterans may receive additional funding through the Yellow Ribbon GI Project. The Point Project offers scholarships between $1,000 and $10,000 to LGBTQ+ students. In addition, the Tisch Initiative for Creative Research provides additional funding for interdisciplinary research projects.

Total cost of attendance for commuters: $85,272
Loans are a basic part of a student’s financial package and come in several forms: subsidized and un-subsidized loans guaranteed by the federal government; parent PLUS loans; and, occasionally, private loans. Due to high interest rates, NYU Tisch does not recommend undergraduate students immediately opt for private loans.

Incoming transfer students are not eligible for NYU Tisch need-based aid. The university encourages transfer students to use the scholarship search function and explore work-study options for NYU Tisch students through the Wasserman Center for Career Development.

If graduate students opt for high-budget film projects, NYU Tisch recommends planning for these expenses:

To apply for financial assistance, you must fill out the appropriate sections on the NYU Tisch graduate application. Financial need does not impact your admissions decision.) New York City costs far more than most metropolitan U.S. cities, and students should practice good financial planning and consider paid internships.
Film students who qualify for Federal Work-Study are eligible for scholarships and loans. The program allows participants to work 15-20 hours weekly; payment is delivered biweekly. NYU recommends putting these funds towards books, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. Work-Study positions are not guaranteed at the main campus or qualifying study abroad campuses.
Each semester, F-1 and J-1 students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the NYU-sponsored student health insurance comprehensive plan. Lower-cost basic coverage plans are available.
Graduate film students receive limited scholarships; funding typically comes from their home governments, foundations, and/or private agencies. Personal education loans typically require a U.S. cosigner and may offset the cost of attendance. Learn more about private loans.
