NYU Tisch General Admissions Requirements for Undergraduates for 2026 Entry

Ready to apply to NYU Tisch for undergraduate film? Begin by reading about the basic application requirements from the University's website:
  • Fill out the Common Application: Complete the Common Application with the non-refundable $85 application fee (or request a fee waiver). It is required for students applying to any or all of NYU's three degree-granting campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi, or Shanghai. You'll be able to choose your campus(es) and program(s) of interest on the NYU-specific page of the Common Application. You’ll need:
    • A personal email address that you check regularly. Please do not use a school email address as you may miss important information about your application and admissions decision.
    • Contact information for the counselor or other school representative who will complete your Common Application School Report, where they are able to submit your high school transcript and optional letter of recommendation.
  • 1-3 Letters of Recommendation: In the designated section of the Common Application, provide the contact information for at least one recommender who is a teacher, counselor, coach, supervisor, or anyone else in a position of authority. If your recommender is unable to submit their letter through the Common Application request link, they can email it directly to admissions.docs@nyu.edu; please have them include either your full name, date of birth, and Common App ID.
  • Complete the Common Application Mid Year Report: Upload the report with your updated academic record, if mid-year grades are available. The report should show your first semester senior year grades.
  • Provide Standardized Test Scores (OPTIONAL): NYU Tisch is test-optional. Providing standardized test scores in the form of the SAT or ACT will not increase your chances of acceptance.
  • Provide Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR): All applicants will be invited to complete this after submitting their application.
  • An audition or portfolio for Tisch School of the Arts: A required audition or portfolio can be submitted in place of standardized testing, and the University recommends finalizing your application at least one month in advance. (Tisch requires an audition or portfolio for applicants to all programs.)
  • Conduct English Language Testing: If you have not completed at least 3 years of study where English is the sole language of instruction at the time of application submission and English is not your first language, you must upload test scores demonstrating English language proficiency.
  • Upload College Transcripts: If you are externally transferring to NYU Tisch, provide records of all college work that you have received academic credit for and does not appear on your high school transcript.
AP courses are encouraged, but not required. NYU Tisch recommends high school applicants take:
  • English/Writing - 4 years
  • History/Social Studies - 3 to 4 years
  • Mathematics - 3 to 4 years
  • Laboratory Sciences - 3 to 4 years
  • Foreign Language - 3 to 4 years
