2015 Interviews - Acceptances - Rejections

Hello Folks,

I just had my NYU Skype interview today - international applicant for Film Grad. It went... just fine. I feel I could have done better. Anybody knows the ratio of acceptance of interviewed people?

Cheers!

@esther I wouldn't be able to decide. I'm leaning towards AFI, but not sure. I guess it really depends if I get into any of them. Good luck, I'll keep you updated!

I am so glad to know it was helpful. All the best. I am being positive. I really hope we get accepted. I have my interview with Columbia on thursday for screenwriting/directing. :)
@Nagham thanks for sharing your NYU experience! Good luck with Columbia interview, I have mine next Thursday! Hope you'll share that experience as well. I am still waiting to hear from NYU. Fingers crossed. Good luck!

I had my AFI interview yesterday & NYU interview last Friday, so I just wanted to share my two cents.

My interview at NYU was with 3 faculty members - 1 ASC member, 1 Academy Award winner & 1 Golden Globe nominee…
At AFI, the head of the Cinematography Dept. was the President of the ASC two years ago...
Basically, both sets of interviewers look intimidating on paper, but both interviews were conversational and relaxed. My point being, don't be intimidated! They're all very successful & established, but they just want to make sure that the applicant they accept isn't some weirdo, and that you're as passionate for your craft as you appear to be on paper.

I wore a suit to both. I rarely wear suits, but I have to say when you dress well, you really do feel much more confident. I don't know how to explain it any better than that. I highly recommend over dressing because it undoubtedly boosted my confidence, as strange as that may sound. From my experience as well as from the advice I was given prior to my interviews, confidence goes a long way in these interviews. Try to avoid um, so, well & other transition words at the start of each sentence. If you need a second to think, just take your time and answer with conviction instead of stalling with those transition words.

I was asked similar questions as those who wrote about their interviews before me, so I just wanted to share that little bit about confidence, which certainly helped me out. I hope that helps! Good luck to everyone!

I'm wondering if anyone applied to Emerson?
I'm admitted into Emerson. It's a safety school for me but I don't think i did well for UCLA and Columbia interview. So.... i might go to this school.

Hi Maggie:)
We are on the same boat. I got accepted to Emerson, CCC, and SCAD, but I'm waiting for Columbia, Chapman, and LMU.
Keep waiting until last minutes :))))

Thank you very much. They are really helpful. I went through them. I'll try my best to be calm and collected.

I've had my interview with Columbia and I wrote a list of questions they asked me in the Columia 2015 forum. Not sure if it will help as I'm a producing applicant.

But good luck, may you be calm and collected...

Hi guys,

been lurking this forum for a few weeks now and just wanted to add where i am with the process: i have been accepted to usc production/direction and had an interview with AFI for their directors program a few weeks ago. i also applied to NYU, Columbia, CalArts, and UCLA for similar programs but have not heard anything from them yet...been wondering where accepted people are leaning for their respective disciplines? let me know...maybe we can connect elsewhere

@Sush Thanks a lot. I really hope you hear back from NYU. Congratulations on making it to the interview round. All the best with your interview. I will let you know how it goes with mine.

I just had my Columbia Skype interview today. I would like to share some of the questions that might help others prepare for their interview. It was very relaxed.

Questions asked:
Q1/ What have you been working on in the past 6 months?
Q2/ What is a story/book that you'd like to adapt to the screen?
Q3/ Have you directed actors?
Q4/ A question about my visual sample and personal statement.
Q5/ Any questions you have for us?

Just heard back from AFI about my screenwriting application: it's a no. (Today is the day all the screenwriting people are supposed to be notified.) But I still got into USC, my first choice, so no worries here!

Hey guys, I also just heard back from AFI for screenwriting via email - I got in!! I'm ecstatic about the news and couldn't really sleep (it's 5:30am in Sydney) so I just hovered around my phone. Now I really can't sleep because of the excitement...

@PrincessJellyshoes, I also woke up to an email from USC as well saying I didn't get in...but hi five anyway for getting our first choice schools! Anyway, good luck to everyone else today!
