2015 Interviews - Acceptances - Rejections

After playing phone tag with UCLA (it's been hard to coordinate because I am traveling), finally just got an email from the professor that they have been trying to reach me to let me know that I got into the Directing/Production MFA program at UCLA! I am shocked and still trying to process the information. I haven't received the official email yet.

Anyways, for those of you still waiting, have hope! It seems like acceptances are still being handed out. Best of luck to everyone!

Congratulations to everyone who's been accepted in the past week. And to everyone who is still waiting to hear, I hope you all hear some news soon!

I had a Skype conversation with Professor Wheatley at LMU on Tuesday to chat about the program/school and to answer any questions that I had. I had a ton and she answered them all :) She also informed me they were awarding me a Dean's Scholarship for $5000. I had been leaning towards LMU anyway, but our conversation confirmed my decision.

As I haven't quite made my mind up yet about which direction in the film industry I want to pursue, I think a Film Production course is better for me than a specialised Sound Design course. I paid my enrolment fee yesterday to LMU, and I'm so excited! I look forward to meeting everyone else who also accepted LMU :D

After my initial welcome email from the professor at UCLA, it has been quiet. I haven't received any official email yet, even though I was told the deadline for me to officially commit is on the 15th. I have tried to email and call but with no response. Should I be worried? Anybody else in UCLA Production/Directing MFA have a similar problem? I'm starting to panic a little bit and wonder if there was a problem...Thanks!

waitlisted by UCLA, still pending decision by chapman, AND no news from LMU at all.

seems like I have to go to FSU

Hey guys, just wanna say hello to everyone. I've been lurking for a long time since I submitted my application last year. I applied to only one school, which is UCLA for directing program. I almost gave up on it since I hadn't heard anything back from the school until yesterday I was notified that I have been placed on the wait list for the program.

This means nothing yet, and I don't really know how many chances I'll have to get in the program eventually. I guess it's still better than a rejection or nothing, so I'll keep staying positive and try not to be bothered by this.

It's a really long journey, isn't it?

Hey you guys! What a cool thread, wish I could find out earlier!
Just got an offer from AFI - production design programme. Anyone who is going to AFI this year? It will be sweet to get to know some of my future school mates;) And good luck to everyone who's still waiting!

kd6, thanks for the response!
And I agree, FSU's program is great. The campus had wonderful resources too! I loved the warmness from the admissions committee/faculty. My visit there was really pleasant.

Now I'm having a hard time deciding because I did get into some other (non film-related) programs at NYU and USC (with partial funding!), which makes me want to just wait it out and reapply to their film schools again in their future. But I'm also afraid that if I turn down FSU's offer this year, I'd be missing out on a big opportunity... ah well, sorry for rambling.

Anyhow congrats on your acceptances too! :)

The way I see it, film school is a big commitment in terms of money and time. If you think you'll be better prepared for another stab at the NY/CA schools next year (and I'm sure you will go strength to strength!), I think you should seriously consider that. There's probably nothing worse than wishing you had.

My two cents :p

Hey Stella, congratulations on your offer!! I will be attending AFI this year as a screenwriter :)

Congratulations to everyone who's been accepted!
This will be my first comments. I'm an international applicant.

I got admission to both chapman with editing emphasis and FSU.
I'm still torn between them.
Actually, I'm leaning towards Chapman since its location and my huge interest of editing.
Also, I'm likely to be burnout due to their rigorousness (12 projects in one semester and the summer semester in Florida!!)

But, before making final decision, I'd like to listen to everyone's opinion.
Could you please share your opinion on Chapman and FSU? whaterer would be helpful for me.

Congratulations to you too @skycamera !!!!

I actually have a good friend who is finishing her first year in Chapman's Editing program. She seems to really love the program and Dodge has pretty legit facilities. I toured their building with her and her classmates (albeit after a night of drinking at the bar near the campus :D) and they seem to have everything you need in a film school.

I will admit that being in Orange can seem like exile, but Chapman is aware of this and they do everything they can to compensate for that through internships and tapping their own alumni network in LA. Plus, the all students work on each other's sets, so you'll get more than just a "dungeon room of editing" experience. I can't speak on FSU, but I will say that it will help to be as close to LA as possible for lucrative job opportunities (especially if you plan to move there after your studies), and Chapman is about the furthest school you could go to in SoCal (besides maybe CalArts??) that's still able to help expose you to professional projects to put your schooling into action. (although I dunno about what opportunities FSU has to offer)

Hopefully this helps. If you can afford it and you don't feel the urge to take advantage of what FSU has to offer instead, I think you'd benefit greatly from Chapman. Good luck in whatever you decide!

Thanks so much for the advice. It was really difficult to turn down FSU, but I made myself do it. It came down to the funding as well.
Feeling relieved though now that it's done and over with.

Hoping to re-apply in the future :)

I don't think we have a Facebook group yet ...could be a bit early? Maybe that will change as more people receive and accept their offers.

But nice to meet you too - it's great to have met another incoming fellow! ;)

Hey @Caroline_Eleni! Congratulations for getting through LMU. I have also chosen Film and TV Production course. I guess we are going to be classmates :)
