2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections

Just received my acceptance from ucla (directing). There is hope on wait list after all
Congrats chicago! Are you definitely attending?

Hey All! Need any help or info I can on UK film schools and what you've heard about them. I am American but I'd really like to get into London international film world. I've interviewed and have gotten into Arts University Bournemouth, Leeds Beckett University, London Film Academy, and Goldsmiths University of London all starting Fall 2016. I've interviewed at MET film school but haven't heard back. LFS is at the top of my list but I haven't heard anything at all. In the US, I've gotten into DePaul University but I think I'm set on a UK experience. Know anything about the ones I got into? Very surprised I keep getting into these schools. Seriously, not trying to brag! I hoped for 1 or 2 but now I have a very big decision to make! Any advice would help!

This is my first time posting here. I wish I had found this site weeks ago. Congratulations to all who have been accepted so far.

I am pursuing cinematography and I applied to USC, AFI and UCLA this year. I wasn't accepted into either USC or AFI but I did go in for an interview at UCLA and was later placed on the waitlist. The cinematography program is by far the smallest in terms of available spots so I'm being realistic about my chances of being taken off the waitlist but I'm still hopeful and it feels pretty good to have made it this far.

Anyways, good luck to all who are still waiting to hear back from certain schools.

I'm on the wait list of directing either, I hope both of us can get in. But we also need to be realistic. Good luck, and there's someone with you!

Did they ask you for any additional documents?
They asked me for my bachelors transcripts. I am actually now having second thoughts about whether or not I am really in because they asked me for some transcripts that are in the local language of my country. My university gives out transcripts in English so I am not sure what I can provide them. I just send them what I already sent them with a note explaining my situation.

Oh my God. I have the same concern. In my case, even though I have already submitted all the things they asked for. But after that I changed my laptop. And then I lost my USB... So if they ask again, that will be a big problem. Would you mind me ask where you come from? I'm Chinese. And I highly recommend you to call them at least. Hope we can make it!

Yes even I submitted all my documents way back in October. I called the graduate admissions and I got yelled at for even asking me something

I totally agree with all of the above - Skype is used with some frequency for interviews nowadays and I'm confident these schools, like many companies and businesses that interview people through not-in-person methods, won't hold a Skype interview against anybody. My only concern is, if I do a Skype interview, I want to get a higher quality webcam so my image is a bit sharper (for the sake of presenting myself well) before the interview. It may not matter much in the long run, but is just something I considered doing for me to feel at my most confident in the technology I have. :)

It's been a minute...I just wanted to check in with you to see if you heard back from Northwestern. As soon as I got rejected from AFI I called them and told them I wanted to go to school there. I submitted an application for the producers program and was admitted today. If you're not going anywhere this year...don't give up. I am not a conventional student, I have zero contacts...just a passion for film and television. If you need help working on your AFI application ( if you ever apply) let me know. I got your back. Thanks for always routing for me.

I haven't been to this place since march, after my rejections from the UCLA & LMU mfa programs. Anyway, I was thinking about re-applying to ucla for fall 2017, since they told me that I won't have to resubmit anything. However, I am going to resubmit my transcripts. I think my low 3.0 gpa was one of the things used against my application...or maybe it was my bad writing:(? I am apprehensive to apply again and risk rejection for a 2nd time, I'm not young(I turned 33 last friday) & have wasted many years since I graduated from college in 2006. Writing is the only thing I really enjoy and I am somewhat good at it. I have few options career wise, screenwriting is probably the one area where I might succeed. Anyone have any advice on the re-application process?

Look into AFI. I had a lower GPA than yours. They care more about your narrative, what you want to do with your life and your ideas. Seriously- put the time and effort into working on your writing sample and don't be afraid to talk about your "real" life story in your narrative. Honesty mixed with humor will make for a compelling story. I would steer clear of comedies for your writing sample- it's hard to gauge your crowd and it may fall flat (speaking from personal experience). I made it to the finals for screenwriting and just got accepted for producing and I'm older than you. No excuses. Put your ego aside and face the possibility of rejection if that's what you really want to do. I think schools like to see students reapply because it means they want it...and they can see how you've grown as a writer over the past year. I would resubmit a new writing sample to ucla. If you didn't get wait listed this time around than maybe they didn't connect with your story. Write a few pieces- share them with people- see which one garners the best response. Start now. Don't set yourself up for failure and back yourself into a corner by waiting too close to deadlines to do rewrites. We all do it- and it rarely works. Good luck.

I've updated the Google Doc in the top of the post to add a "GPA" column. If you could add your GPA to the Google Doc that would be an awesome way to determine how GPAs weigh into being accepted into programs.

This would be a HUGE boost to future applicants. Thanks guys!

Added a GRE score and Materials submitted column too... What are other good things to include?
