Hello folks,

I am Nidhi Kamath a documentary filmmaker from India. I have been making short films on documentary genre since last 9 years. Our team has won at film festivals etc. But I want to get an international exposure and study more. I want to do an MFA in documentary media. I had applied last year to Stanford and Northwestern. But cudn't get in. I had given an interview at Northwestern but I didn't get in. This year again I will be reapplying to these 2 colleges along with 1 yr course in documentary at Columbia school of Journalism.

I was wondering if anyone here can recommend me other good film schools in USA, UK or anywhere else apart from Canada ( can't survive the snow for 6 months ). I want a programme which
1. Good faculty
2. Fully funded course
3. 1- 2 year programme
4. Where I get to learn more about documentary filmmaking and also pitching etc.

Warm Regards
Nidhi

Duke University also has a documentary program.

Also, only a selected few colleges offer documentary program. So I would suggest keeping as many options open as possible.

Having said that, I would suggest reconsidering Canada. In terms of weather, Northwestern Illinois is as cold as Canada. Columbia is in New York, which also has a pretty cold winter.

Hi I applied at Duke University :) and other 7 colleges in UK. I find the colleges in USA have extremely high competition, high tuition fee and also high application fees. Thank you for your reply :D

For documentary program, no...cause only this program is fully-funded hahaha. How about you?

Btw, my application is still "submitted" status😢
Mine says the same thing, is it supposed to change to something else? I’m new to this process.

I also applied to Duke’s MFA EDA program!

Hi Nidhi - super late with this, and I see you have already applied a bunch of places, but Stanford has an excellent documentary programme.

Also! Would love to connect with you. My name is Saksham. I am from Delhi. Went to film school for undergrad in America. Been working on docs in India. currently applying for an MFA outside, now that I actually have a clear understanding of what to do.
