USC SCA Film Production MFA 2023

Hello everyone! I’m seeing all these comments about getting interview invitations & getting nervous since I haven’t gotten one yet. I sent in my application a couple days before the submission deadline. Do they reach out for interviews based on a rolling basis? So if I turned in mine later closer to the deadline, then would I be typically receiving an invitation later too?

No not excatly! I submitted at the last minute by deadline and got interview invitation 2 days ago, I heard from USC SCA students that USC's interview is faculty member selecting their mantees that they are interested in, and if admitted the interviewer will be your mentor, so don't worry there are many professors and they are processing it on their pace

Okay that’s more relieving to hear, thank you so much! Wish you the best of luck for your interview :)

I turned mine in the day before, and I was invited to interview 3 weeks ago. So I don't think it's on a rolling basis, it's just when the prof decides they want to.

Hey guys :) I'm Candy, and I'm in my second semester at USC (literally admitted the DAY before classes) this forum was such a HUGE help to me! If you have any questions about the application process, financing, the application process, or the program itself, let me know <3

Are there anyone in your cohort who were admitted without interviews?

Can I ask a few questions about how the program actually goes?

oops I forgot to tell you about me : I applied for 2023 and waiting for a result after the interview.
May I ask some questions?

Absolutely! Fire away!
As there is no way to open a private conversation, I'm just posting my questions here. It took some time to arrange my wonderings as below :

1. How do directors recurit crew? Do they find people for their films usually from their cohort?
2. Are there many people who have experiences in the industry (no matter where the countries they're from)? Are the students have basic knowledge about production? (some basics like how to handle various equipments or plan a budget etc.)
3. What are the 1st and 2nd semester classes like? Do you think the school teach literally the ABC of filmmaking?
4. Would you tell me what is the 2nd year directing track like? (I assume there are things you might have heard.)
5. What do you think USC's superiority over other institutions?

... and I personally want to know whether there are chances to meet students from other related fields like composing film music.

Thank you for your help. It's great to have a chance to ask things to SCA student. I really appreciate it!
