News Discussions COVID-19 & Film School?

USC is now remote until the end of the semester. We just heard today and it's spring break, so we're still waiting to hear from our professors how the rest of the semester will go. Fingers crossed everything returns to normal by the time fall term begins!

Then we go on spring break and return to regular in person classes, unless the coronavirus situation here gets worse. We'll see what happens - it's crazy...

Hi @FilmNerd00, the Stark program is an MFA program, so you need a bachelors or bachelors equivalent to get into the program.

Accepted to USC - Peter Stark AMA (Ask Me Anything)

Hi @truffleshuffle! The degree of collaboration is up to individual Starkies, nothing mandated or overseen by the program. It's very easy to never interact with production students unfortunately, but it's also very easy to make friends with and collaborate with other divisions. Production...

    Is UCLA extension worth it?

The professional program is different from UCLA extension. I don’t have any experience with extension, sorry, but I did love the professional program course!

Accepted to USC - Peter Stark AMA (Ask Me Anything)

Hello @sakemetekika! Good luck on your application this year! I think they want to get a sense of who you are as a person, so don't worry about trying to figure out who they want you to be. Everyone is my cohort is very unique and different in terms of personality. We have extroverts and...

Accepted to USC - Peter Stark AMA (Ask Me Anything)

Hi @samantha_e! Good luck with your application! In hindsight, I think I worried too much about my past experience, when what's truly important is demonstrating you're the type of person that could excel in the program. My classmates and I all come from different backgrounds, with varying prior...

Accepted to USC - Peter Stark AMA (Ask Me Anything)

@KeenanDK, my unique experience helped me in the sense that I was able to share my story with the Stark office and give them a sense of who I am. And you can do that too, with whatever experience you have because that is valuable. If you can share your story and your background and how that...

Accepted to USC - Peter Stark AMA (Ask Me Anything)

@Jwhite62 I think they look for self-driven people who they see potential in, regardless of previous experience. I think in general the SCA grad programs are a good mix of people who have been working for a few years and people who just finished undergrad. I graduated with my BA last spring and...

Accepted to USC - Peter Stark AMA (Ask Me Anything)

Hi @Jwhite62! I set up a meeting with Michael Lane at the Stark office and asked him this question last summer. He stressed that you should choose people you know for sure would praise you and recommend you highly, regardless of whether they're a big name in the industry or not. I ended up...

What kind of projects do you like producing?

Hi guys! What are you hoping to get out of your producing MFA and what kind of projects do you want to produce? I want to be in both TV and features, but I'm interested in exploring docs as well. I'm currently producing 2 short films and a music video this summer. I'd love to hear what everyone...

Hey screenwriters! Can I produce your script?

Hi @Lynz! I'm currently producing 2 scripts from film school people, so a third might be too much. But I never mind meeting up for coffee and chatting scripts!

Suggestions for directing class this spring-summer in Los Angeles...?

I did take a summer program at UCLA last year, but it was a producing program. The Professional Program doesn't have a directing course, but you can try UCLA extension. There's a whole lot of options there!

A few questions regarding Film School

Hi @FilmNerd00! Welcome to the site! Are you asking about undergrad film school? If so, you may or may not need to take the SAT or an equivalent international test, depending on the schools you are applying to. If you are applying for grad film school, you just need to have a bachelors or...
