NYU (2006) - Accepted 250 students into UGFTV (my parents were told during a tisch acceptance reception)
USC - On their website it says that they accept only 50 students into the production program of the film school.
UCLA - I heard from someone that they accept ~40 into their film program...
the truth is that you can never really "lock" on to one of these film schools.
From my experience:
NYU - will largely focus on your creative submission. (but remember! aside from the film school reviewing your app, the general admissions of NYU will also review it. i don't know the details of...
Write a strong essay that can explain your motivation for choosing film and also make sure that you don't come across as being a "one-trick-pony." You should also probably upload your portfolio video so we can see it.
At least what I found from applying to Tisch and USC CNTV (I was accepted to...
Interesting. Does the undergrad program use digital cameras more than film cameras? I'm also curious to know what kind of video equipment they got... I've seen a lot of students using the DVX100. Do students in the undergrad program have access to cameras that are better than the DVX100?
Is NYU's grad film program stronger than its undergraduate film program? The UGFTV faculty said that you don't need to pursue the grad program once you're in for undergrad.
when i went to the tisch acceptance reception... i *think they had told the parents that 250 are ADMITTED to Film/TV major. but if you're talking about how many they expect to attend, i don't know that figure... (I said *think, b/c it was a while ago.. and my mom had told me the stat)
I listed a TV show that I produced, one 40 minute school trip video, and numerous shorts that I did. I wouldn't be afraid of putting anything on that resume list... just don't make it ridiculously long. Because remember, they'll be spending the most time reviewing your submission (your photos...
Yeah Ive gotten a lot of those emails. It's funny how they send letters with a bunch of URLs. I thought the Sound Image course was required?
titanium, do you have any other teachers you'd recommend?
thanks again
None of the videos I sent to NYU were story-based. They were actually music videos/animations/promos. Here's one of them: http://uthtv.com/umedia/show/273/.
I think if you do send something "atmospheric" it has to convey a message of some sort... it can't just be camera technique or editing style.
hey titanium... i've been looking at this site: http://filmtv.tisch.nyu.edu/object/FTV_FreshProg.html
does tisch recommend i take ALL of the classes listed? its complicated looking through the course schedule, lol.
do you think Storyboarding would be helpful in learning to direct? or should I just stick with the DFS route? I'm also good at animation, but I don't want to be bottlenecked into that path if you know what I mean. Again, I greatly appreciate all of your replies titanium.
yeahhh that was the one i was thinking of... because after you take Intro to Animation, you can eventually take storyboarding... I thought that would be particularly useful to learn how to direct.
i'll be graduating 2010 ;)
hey titaniumdoughnut, what classes did you choose for your first semester? i'm debating between digital frame and sequence and storytelling... my strong point is cinematography and i'm wondering if it would be beating a dead horse to take DFS... any response is much...
