    Is AFI Certificate Worth It?

Neither a certificate nor an MFA from AFI will get you work. The contacts you make at AFI could possibly get you work.

    Grades vs Porfolio

Getting into the program at UT is extremely competitive and grades play a major factor. I am not sure about the other schools. The only reason I would consider Austin is if you want to work in Texas. There is work but not really enough to work full time at it. The other places you will starve...

    NYFA reviews?

My roommate attended NYFA back around 2007. Whatever program that is around now is much better than what they had back then. She is an amazing 1st AD and turns down work.

Got into NYU Film and Berkeley Architecture. Advice?

Go to Berkley. You are still in California, are getting a real degree and can PA in your non-existant free time as an architecture student. Maybe during the summers if you have a light course load. You can always get an MFA after your undergrad. IMO if you are trying to break into the film...

    UT Austin RTF

Looking back I wish I would have went there. I graduated from Texas A&M where they shun creativity.

    what will you do?

A lot of the DP's I know started as grips, then moved to gaffer and then to DP. One guy I know got his undergrad at Yale then started gripping. In the last 7 years he has DP'd over 30 features.

    AFI 2012

You do not need an undergrad degree to attend AFI. However, without one you will only receive a certificate and not a MFA.

    advice

Never heard of the school. Are you able to attend school in the UK or US? I hear the Nigerian film market is crazy right now. Lots of films being produced for $5000USD that end up making between $100K-$500K.

    UT Austin 2012

I would definitely rewrite your statement of purpose. What films have you worked on in the past year? What have you learned making your own films? UT is a great school and great program. I was accepted there for undergrad but chose to go to Texas A&M instead. That said you are making contacts...

    How many MFA applicants

here are currently making a living in film in television? A guy I know worked about 5 years G&E and gaffing before he went through the AFI cinematography program. Wondering if the bulk of the applicants have just finished their undergrad or if there are some below the line crew here.

    UT Austin 2011

I'd like to get my MFA eventually and UT is one of the schools I am considering. I am from just south of Austin and would choose UT if I decide I want to move my career from L.A. back to Texas. If I stay in L.A. I will apply to USC, UCLA and AFI. For fun I will apply to the National Film and...
