Pretty good! I enjoyed filling out the application. I actually figured out a way to enjoy writing the essays, which was a miracle. I like having a prompt when I make something, so making the short was fun.
I enjoyed the application process- the prompt for the short film was pretty broad & vague, but I appreciated the room to create whatever I wanted. For the sample, I submitted a chunk of a longer film I made recently. I didn't want to change the pace/the way it was edited by cutting it down...
The instructions were simple and I thought my application was solid overall but I knew my chances of getting in were slim given AFI's fierce competition. Fuck it tho I was happy to have prepared everything and have submitted the application on time...although I have not receive an interview...
The application materials were clearly laid out. The Vision Statement piece of the application was interesting as it allowed a bit more room for context around why I chose a particular story (where other applications are looking for more concise, to the point concepts). Interview notification...
Uploaded required documents to GradCAS and waited. Process of uploaded to GradCAS was easy. Deadline for submission was 1 Dec. Have yet to hear from them.
Uploaded required documents to GradCAS and waited. Process of uploaded to GradCAS was easy. Deadline for submission was 1 Dec. They told me to submit a non-professional headshot to identify me for the interview, as well as the names of the interviewers. Waiting for the interview on 24th Jan.
Was stressing over the "conflict" short and struggling with the script - but a trip to Provence with some film school classmates provided the perfect inspiration and I unexpectedly shot it there. Funnily enough, I feel it is the best short script I've ever written - the most cohesive and simple...
I applied just in time for the initial deadline of 1st December 2022, because I didn't want to leave my application to chance. I have been pretty determined to make sure my application is as good as it can be. My biggest challenge was the 10/60 prompt, as I was sick with the one and only covid...
Really scary, just submitted my application, and waiting up for anything, really. International application, and did not submit any English Proficiency scores, but instead gave a Certificate of English as the Medium for Instruction from my home university.
First time applying. I enjoyed answering the writing prompt. Gave me ideas for expanding the scene's story. I also appreciated they allowed 3 pages for the narrative statement. It gave plenty of room to expound more than other applications.
I actually find the GradCas system a bit complicated and it's hard to do a final check of everything but other than that everything was relatively easy. I like the scene prompts AFI give as they are so broad which is nice.
I enjoyed the application. I like that they let you send a 20 page writing sample and only needed two letters of recc. I attended one of the info sessions and the school as a whole seems very intense, but also adequately prepares you for the field. The narrative statement asked you to answer a...
Pretty smooth, the online application system makes it seamless to apply. The required documents and portfolios were a lot to sort through for me since I had to basically put together all the materials from scratch in a matter of two months., including shooting and editing everything myself. I'm...
It was pretty straight forward.
found myself over thinking things at times but the admissions team were super helpful over email and helped clear up any questions I had. I also DM'd some alumni and they were incredibly kind to take time to respond and that helped me a lot in better understanding...
Hi everyone, I'm in the process of applying to MFAs in the US, Canada and the UK and as you all know they all require some form of visual sample of your work. Now, I attempted to shoot a short film this year that I was going to use to apply for film school with and I spent a lot of money on it...
