Overall, the application went okay. It was quite lengthy and a bit intimidating at the start but once you start with your essays, it gets better. I would recommend to start early even though I completed mine in like 15 days because of all the other applications. I think getting a head start...
Hello all! My name is Dave and I am currently pursuing graduate studies in Film Production. Like some of you on here, my path to filmmaking was not the most traditional. I had previously attended Colorado State University - Pueblo straight out of high school but a personal tragedy prompted me to...
The interview was virtual, because I'm an internacional student, but it was great. They asked me about my personal statement and portfolio, why I chose them, and I made a few questions about the school. The two of them were kind and fun to chat with.
It was difficult to make the video pitch because I spoke the wrong words for thousand times... I just recorded myself to the camera and didn't add any images. The interview with the FSU head of admissions on filmschool.org helped me a lot...
First time applying. This app had a few unique prompts that I enjoyed writing. All of the samples are fairly short, so I'm not sure what they're looking for exactly. I'm in Florida, so I would love a program in-state.
Hey all! Did anyone else apply to FSU's College of Motion Picture Arts for Writing or maybe another discipline? The deadline is tomorrow! I applied for the first time and am pretty excited about it because I already live in Florida.
Would love to chat with other applicants if you're out there!
The application was pretty smooth. FSU's film website is easy to navigate and informative. The application website was straightforward and mostly easy to understand. The application representative was easy to contact and friendly. Everyone at the college was very inviting and helpful during the...
First time applying and got rejected without an interview. I asked for some feedback and they didn't say anything very specific. They said there was a high number of applications this year and that they can only admit a maximum of 8 students per year.
Does anyone have any idea what the FSU interview for the writing program is like? I'm waiting for mine to be scheduled and am really nervous. What kind of questions do they ask?
It was super simple, just wasn't sure about the video essay. I submitted two different narrative films to my portfolio, a short film script, and my letters of rec were from former professors.
Great! I really loved FSU's prompts so I had fun with the supplemental pieces. I was not expecting much but was very excited to get the interview phone call from Paige. Fingers crossed!
Just submitted my application. The instruction is a bit unclear for me and admin team is not as responsive as the other schools.
very stressful but glad it was done!

In the heart of Tallahassee is the hidden gem of the film industry: Florida State University’s College of Motion Picture Arts. Ranked among the top 15 best film schools in America by the Hollywood Reporter, FSU CMPA offers top-notch facilities and equipment. Most recently, their Torchlight...
Even in the days before the Delta strain wreaked havoc from coast to coast, we already knew that COVID-19 has altered the film industry — and permanently, some might argue. But it’s not just the method of film production and where films are being released that have changed. Going to film school...
The FSU Admissions Department has agreed to be interviewed by @Alexa P. the end of August for an article similar to our AFI and USC articles:
What questions would you like us to ask them? Here are some we are already thinking of:
1. What career services do you offer?
2. Can you name a few...
