I think honestly my biggest mistake was treating this as college applications (where you go for breadth instead of just focusing on the places that are the best fit for you). My dream job is a sci-fi filmmaker, and that honestly just doesn't align that well with the types of directors NYU tends...
Unfortunately I could not spend a lot of time on this application because of personal issues and the fact that NYU is not my first choice school. I recommend future applicants to spend as much time as you can spare if NYU Grad Film is your ideal program of study. Good luck!
The application process went very smoothly. The application requirements were straightforward and the interview was fun and conversational. I appreciated their transparency with communicating deadlines and expectations. Overall, great experience!
Application process was good. They are the only school that had a creative writng, dramatic story sample. I actually took a screenplay idea and turned it into prose but they also had specific prompts they want you to write about so it's probably better to spend more time on it, I admittedly did...
Smooth and uneventful. Submitted a couple weeks ahead of the deadline. Got an interview request and conducted the interview 4 days later. Am currently awaiting the final decision.
NYU has a pretty rigorous application, a lot of materials you should create specifically for their application, and only gives you one video to represent you. The challenge of creating all this original material is best met by giving yourself adequate time to produce some stuff you feel good about.
Fine. The application process was incredibly confusing (the different sites where I had to upload materials). I thought it was interesting that this was the only application I submitted that required a picture of me...
I finished my submission on the last day, quite nervous about it.
Not received any responses yet. Visual submission on Vimeo have been viewed 3 times on Dec. 23, 1 time on Jan.17 and 1 time on Jan.18.
This is my first year applying and I spent a lot of time crafting my application materials. I turned in all of my materials by December 1st and have been a nervous wreck ever since panicking and obsessing over whether I made it clear to the admissions dept about my desire/intentions to move into...
NYU has the most straightforward application process for any grad school I've applied to. You simply submit your script (or play in my case), your resume, two letters of recommendation (although I submitted four, two professional and two academic letters), and a statement of purpose. It is also...
Hi everyone,
I'm a MFA graduate of a top USA film school and have worked in the film school admissions process for five years while there. I have been offering consultations for filmschool org members on their applications, funding considerations, short scripts and feature projects. So feel...
For now, it went well, good and clear webpage. Took me a while to do all the creative portfolio and statement of prupose but now it is done. Looking forward to hearing back from them.
