4th Times the Charm (I hope)

Hello, my name is Sam (she/her). I am 21 years old having just graduated from undergrad this past May. I am located in Virginia and have been interested in attending film school since I was 17. Screenwriting has always been the goal (although eventually writing & directing my own films would be the dream) and I have applied to NYU’s Dramatic Writing program 3 times in the past four-five years. Two rejections and one waitlist later…I have decided to broaden my chances and will be applying to a total of 6 schools: Columbia, USC, Chapman, Boston, UT Austin, and NYU-persistence is key, right? I’ve really tried to dedicate myself to creating better materials for my portfolio and even took a chance on shooting my own short film this past summer. I’m hopeful this will help boost my chances, but still any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Good luck to all!

Yes! I applied during high school, as a transfer student, and now will be a graduate applicant.

Hey Sam! Don't know if you still check this site now that you've been admitted somewhere, but just wanted to say I feel this. I'm also from VA and this will be my third year applying to UT Austin, having gotten waitlisted last year. I did the same thing as you - tried to broaden my horizons this year by applying to 6 programs. If you check this, any words of wisdom or thoughts on how you strengthened your app would be much appreciated! Also, if you're attending Boston, let me know how you like it! I've thought about adding that one to my list last minute...
