Acceptances/Decisions Fall '10

Hey Everyone!

UCLA - Rejected (Producing)
Chapman- Accepted (Producing)

Only applied to two schools, so I guess the decision was made for me.

For screenwriting:

UCLA: Rejected
NYU (NYC): Rejected
Columbia: Waitlisted
NYU (Singapore): interviewed and waiting
Chapman: no interview, waiting
Carnegie Mellon: complete and utter silence

I really love Columbia and want to go there more than anything, so really hoping that some folks with better prospects open up a spot for me!

For Production Design:

AFI: Accepted (good thing, because I didn't apply anywhere else)

The stats:

3 recommendation letters - two profs, one from the producer of the last short I worked in.

Visual samples - animation demo reel, production design demo reel, trailer for a short film and an animatic (mostly to showcase my sound design skills). All were less than 3 minutes.

Background - BS in Media Arts and Animation (3.7 GPA, honors) and a decade of experience as a professional writer

Hope this helps folks applying in the future. :)

Congrats on getting into Columbia. Do you consider youself more of a writer or director? What is your background?

SilverLenz

Silverlenz - I see myself as more of a writer then a director, right now. I've been writing stories since I was a kid (on and off) and as of now I've never lifted a film camera. But I do want to learn directing and try and direct the stuff I write...I know that's a pretty lofty goal, but that's how I feel right now.

What about you. Where are you going to school, if you are? and what are your goals?

USC - rejected
NYU NYC - rejected, second round
NYU Singapore - interviewed and waitlisted
FSU - interviewed and waiting
Chapman - applied for the final deadline, so waiting
Art Center - accepted

Which school do you prefer out of the school you are still waiting for/ been accepted to VT?

SilverLenz

That's a really tough one. Probably Chapman just for location reasons. Otherwise they're all quite solid programs, and I would be happy at any of them. I still haven't visited a lot of these schools though, so that might be the final deciding factor.

Art Center might be a bit of an oddball, but I really like making music videos. I'm sure that wouldn't fly at the other schools, haha.

Final Tally:

Screenwriting:

UCLA: Interview, Rejected
Northwestern: Not a word
NYU: Rejected
NYU Singapore: Invited to interview, declined.
Columbia College Chicago (Production): Interview, Rejected
Chapman: Accepted
Columbia: Accepted

I think I'm going to Columbia.

Bard -- Rejected
UT -- Rejected
NYU Singapore -- Accepted
Chapman -- Accepted

Having a really difficult time choosing. Anyone know about either of these programs?

Film Production:

UT Austin - Accepted
Temple - Accepted
American - Accepted
Loyola Marymount - Accepted
Chapman - Accepted
Columbia - Rejected

Screenwriting:

Northwestern - Accepted
Boston - Accepted

Really excited to be going to UT Austin in the Fall!
