Hi everyone, I'm in the process of applying to MFAs in the US, Canada and the UK and as you all know they all require some form of visual sample of your work. Now, I attempted to shoot a short film this year that I was going to use to apply for film school with and I spent a lot of money on it to get a proper crew and worked with a mid-sized budget but unfortunately my lead actor had a nervous breakdown and I was forced to abandon the project with about 50 percent of it shot. I restructured the film and edited it to the best of my abilities and I really do believe the scenes I have are the best showcase of my writing and directing ability but the film itself is not fully complete in terms of it's narrative. So I'm confused about whether I should submit it or not. My other option is my 6 minute thesis film from undergrad that I made 3 years ago but it's of course more amateur but it is more of a COMPLETE narrative. For schools like AFI where I can submit up to 10 minutes of a larger film, I can submit my incomplete film but for schools like NYU where they ask for a complete film, I'm unsure what to do. Maybe mention that the film couldn't be completed in one of the essays?
Any advice? If you want you can DM me and I'll share the film with you.
