Between UCSC, UCSB, UCBerkeley, UC Riverside, UC Davis, UC Irvine? Best film program

Hey everyone, since I didnt get an interview for UCLA for transfer I will take that as a rejection which is a bummer but I'm still proud of the work I did. But, I got accepted last Friday to UCSC which I know not much about in regards to their film program, but online it says it #7 in the country? I also got into UC Riverside, and waiting on responses from UCSB, UC Irvine, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and I submitted my supplemental for NYU last week. Putting NYU to the side, which UC college do you believe has the best program and resources? Thank you!

Out of all the UC's you've listed Santa Cruz has the best program that I know of. I didn't know Davis had a program, Berkeley is just film studies/no production, and also not sure about Irvine. I have friends working in the industry in the Bay who graduated from Santa Cruz and had noting but great things to say about the program. It may also be a question of where you want to spend the next 2 years of your life? Closer to LA or closer to the Bay? And I guess that would also be dependent on what track you want to go in with film. Hope this helps.

Hey there, this does help and thank you! I currently reside in Palo Alto, and SC is just a 40-50 minute drive! It says online that UCSB has a good film program, but I do not know anyone that went there for film. I am trying to focus more on hands-on production. I really appreciate the response

Yeah my colleagues that went to Santa Cruz got a lot of hands on experience and they are working cinematographers in the Bay Area now

From the reasearch I've done, UCSC has both a studies and production focus with the film major. Whereas UCSB is more the studying of film. I'm not 100% sure about this, but from one forum I saw about UCSB, they have film production courses but they aren't a part of the major, which is weird. I'm sort of leaning towards Santa Cruz right now because I really want hands on learning along with the studying of film. I hope that this helps!

Where did you end up at Film school and how do you like it? My daughter is trying to decide between UCSC and UCSB right now and is leaning towards UCSB. She really wants as much hands on experience as possible.
