Hi everyone, the title says it all! Sorry if it's a bit of a stupid or loaded question, but I know that a standard requirement for most MFA programs is a bachelor's degree or some equivalent to be admitted.
I'm about to start my last year of undergrad this fall, and I would ideally like to be in an MFA program during next fall in 2025. I'm set to graduate with my bachelor's next spring, but I would still be technically finishing the degree during the MFA application process. Would I still be eligible to apply during this upcoming round, or is this really more of question for certain schools/programs? I know that a lot of people go right from undergrad to film grad school without any gap year, but as I'm researching my top choice programs, I'm second-guessing myself on if I'm even eligible to apply. Perhaps I'm overthinking and that the answer is obvious, but I thought I'd inquire here before I start emailing schools specifically. I want to be prepared as much as possible before applications officially start opening up in a few months.
For example, the FSU Film MFA program has a Grad FAQ section where they address this. I'll add it below.
Q: I’ve been out of school for a number of years. OR I am applying to the MFA in Production while finishing my undergraduate degree. Would I be a good candidate for the College?
A: The College cares less about how recently you earned your undergraduate degree and more about your life experiences, storytelling abilities, and passion for filmmaking. We have had successful candidates who have taken time off between applying to graduate programs or who applied straight from their undergraduate education, and both types of students have been successful in our program.
