FSU MFA Applicants 2021

I just got notified about interviews today (1/19/21). I hope you hear from them soon, if you haven't already!

Did anyone else get an interview? Does anyone know what FSU's interview process looks like? And is there anyone out of state who has an idea about how they plan to pay for FSU if they get accepted?
Thank you! Congratulations on your interview request, sending so much luck to you!! I believe in you :)

I still haven't heard any sort of notification from them.. but you applied to their MFA not BFA program right? I wonder if they did the graduate admissions first. I have no idea, but I'm getting anxious :0

Hey. I got my interview call a few days ago. I applied for both the Production and Writing MFA. But I got an update on my graduate portal that said my application for the Writing MFA had not been approved. Pretty weird phrasing. So it sounds like I wasn't rejected but rather some technical issue in my application. Did anyone else get a similar update?
Same language for me too. Bummer - was looking forward to the program and the low cost. Still waiting to hear back from six others 🤞

Thanks! Actually this is the only college I applied to. It's the only one that wouldn't financially cripple our family haha. So it's all or nothing for me
I hear ya! Got a young daughter and a baby boy (on the way) myself. I just figured I'd use the quarantine to work my booty off and make financial decisions upon acceptance. We'll see what happens.

I had my interview today and it went really well! The people who interviewed me asked me specific questions about myself and my portfolio. I learned more things about the program that I didn't see on the website, like you do get to pick a specialization in your second year. This was really important for me to find out because I was worried about not being able to direct a thesis project.

They said they're aiming to send out responses mid-March! Good luck everyone!

Thank you for sharing your experience! Awesome that it went well and wishing you the best of luck too.
Are you leaning toward FSU more so now after the interview?
Was it a 4 hour zoom call and did they just eventually ask you for your one on one?

Thank you!! I am learning more towards FSU now!

It was four hours long, I was in a room with other people interviewing and two current students who answered a lot of questions about the program and showed us a student short. One by one you have your thirty minute interview in another Zoom room. The current students seemed happy to be in the program and the faculty genuinely seemed to care about getting to know me as a person and as a filmmaker.

Question. If the interview is only 30 minutes why were you all required to stay on Zoom for four hours?

To ask questions and hear other questions answered from the current students. Also, at the end they bring everyone together for an exercise, probably to see how you collaborate.

Ahhh I see! Thanks for explaining. I have my interview today! Wish me luck!

Chiming in to say that I had my interview and it was delightful. Knowing some of the Qs beforehand (especially talk about a film you like and then a film you didn't like and why) was SO helpful. The 4 hour process is really made for us to get a sense of the school, and I feel like I've walked away with a clearer picture than any other school I'm applying to. Really lovely staff and current students and pretty cool fellow interviewers. We talked about this website in the virtual lobby actually! If anyone was there with me today, hit me up and let's connect!
