FSU MFA Motion Picture Arts – Production 2020

Hey, just wanted to share that I got an interview request this morning! I had forgotten all about FSU because they never got my transcripts so I thought I was out of the running. Lol. Anyway if anyone else is applying, interview requests are happening!

Did you receive an email or phone call? I didn’t think we would know until after FSU acceptance on the 30th?
I got an email!
Congrats! I got an interview request today as well! Fingers crossed for both of us! How are you planning on prepping?
I picked the latest date March 7th so I'd have plenty of think time but Idk the email from Paige said to just be yourself so I'm just gonna go with that? lol

I’ve applied to USC & CalArts as well! I think USC might be my first choice but I really like the program at FSU (and the fact that it’s way more affordable). How about you?

I think I applied everywhere but USC. UCLA, LMU, Chapman, and CalArts. The only one I’m hesitant about is CalArts. Nobody seem to say much about it. I just wonder what the program is really like.
Chapman might be my first choice but FSU is starting to look real good lol.

I’m the same! I’ve had so much trouble finding information about CalArts but I do know that they’ve had some pretty successful alumni come out of the program recently. Apparently they’re also known for giving out scholarships (that’s one of the main reasons I applied).

Also can we talk more about the program and what not? I know FSU doesn’t have specific disciplines but what’s everybody’s focus? And why’d you apply to FSU?

I’m a writer/director. I applied to FSU totally last minute because I wanted more options lol. And I saw Barry Jenkins went there so I just thought I’d give it a shot.

Let’s talk guys! We could be classmates😃

My focus is cinematography, and I applied to FSU because it was one of the few 2-year programs and I really love the work that's been coming out of it. Also I'm from the south and wanted to stay in the south for film work.

I’m a writer/director as well! I applied to FSU because of their focus on story (same reason I applied to USC & CalArts). I also watched Barry Jenkin’s speech at SXSW and he went off on how much he loved & was grateful for his time at FSU and how it shaped him as a filmmaker. Other perks of Florida State to me were:

- production costs are covered for student films
- the program is 2 years (12 month academic years)
- program gives experience in different areas of production
- tuition is more affordable plus they are big on financial assistance
- alumni have gone onto make Netflix shows, win Oscars
