HELP!

Hello everyone! I'm dying of anxiety!

-I'm a 23-year-old Philosophy student at one of the best unis in my country. After completing my undergraduate degree in a Film Studies Certificate program (GPA 3.7/4.0) and 3-4 unsuccessful short film attempts, I decided to pursue my career in Filmmaking. My first goal is to attend an MFA in the USA, but because of my lack of experience in the field (mainly because of my degree), I feel incompetent.

So far I've done/been
-published comic series (10 episodes)
- editor (2 times), cinematographer (1 time), writer (3 times)
- 30 pages long story
- worked as a production assistant in an advertisement
- 7 cinema-related courses with high gpa
- volunteer at a prestigious film festival in Turkey
- completed 3DS-Max course

I'm currently working on a stop-motion movie and this will also be the first film that I've directed and written. I also added as many philosophical stuff as I can to show what can I bring from my field.

SHORTLY, atm I cannot even sleep from my anxiety.. I desperately need any advice or comment that understands my feelings. What film schools and MFA programs you would suggest I to apply that you think I will be admitted to most likely?

THANK YOU SO MUCH ALREADY!!!

I think which schools to apply to are sort of personal and should largely be determined by your needs and finances. That being said the big programs in the US are AFI, USC, NYU, Columbia, CalArts, and Chapman in no particular order but there are also a lot of other great options especially depending on what you want to do within the film world.

Which is another factor that should determine your course. If you have a field you want to focus exclusively on then AFI is the choice, but if you want something more general maybe a USC, Columbia, or NYU.

I’d say in terms of an MFA the most important thing across the board is usually knowing who you are and what sort of vision you have. And being able to communicate that. This is the focus of personal statements which are a major consideration on committees. At most places I named this matters far more to them than your experience. A lot of these programs want diverse perspectives and it can be a positive to not have a film background.

Don’t sell yourself short! This industry can be brutal so try to be kind to yourself because others will tell you if your work is bad and all you can really do is do what you know how and learn from the failures and the opportunities you have.
