Hi guys! My name is Jennifer and I'm a senior earning my BA in English/creative writing here in Illinois. I'm from Olympia Fields which is about 30 min out from Chicago. I have a double minor in film studies and video production, and I've fell completely in love with it. I've decided to take the leap of faith and apply to film school for my master's degree. I plan on applying to NYU Grad Film (reach school), Depaul MS Film and TV (cinematography concentration), Columbia College Chicago Directing MFA, and The New School Online Media Studies MA (more of a safety choice, I'd love to teach media studies and continue to create stories even if film school doesn't work out). I'm currently working on all of the portfolio material. If anyone has any advice or find themselves applying to the same places, I'd love it if we could help each other out!
Questions (NYU):
- Thinking of sending in stills instead of a film since I do have little experience in filming but want to practice more cinematography and composition skills. Wanted the subject to be "home" as I shoot and edit phots of my family and places that hold memories for me. Is this reasonable to submit or should the stills be more of a sequential narrative?
Thanks for having me yall!

Welcome to the site! Good luck!

Usually, I believe they want it to be a narrative to show that you can tell a story.

You can still shoot that stuff of course! But be sure to incorporate a narrative if possible in my opinion.

Filmmaking is after all really just storytelling.
