How Many Prompts Did You Write Before You Were Happy?

Hello!
I applied two years ago to Columbia's MFA program and here I am, applying again. I did one of their prompts today and think it would be adequate with some editing, but likely will start again. So my question is, how many times did you do one of the prompts, whether the same one or all of them, before you were happy and submitted? Did you go with the concept of your first run through? Rework it? Start from scratch?

Thank you, hope you all are well.

I'm sure others will respond back with their answers but this article might have some good info for you in this regard.
