How to find things easier on FilmSchool.org?

Since the forums have been around since 2002?!?! it can get a little daunting trying to find if something has been previously discussed on the site. The regular search box is ok but brings up a mix of recent threads and articles or applications.

Of course if you want to find applications you should use the filtering on the application database page. For film school research you can also use the film school filter on the film school pages.

BUT to expertly find threads (discussion posts) about a certain school or program the best way to do this is with Advanced Search.

  • Once on that page be sure to select the search threads tab.
  • Select "Search titles only" and "Display results as threads" to narrow if desired
  • Select which forum you want to search to narrow even more.
For example if you want to see all application year threads for NYU:

  1. Search threads tab
  2. Keyword "NYU"
  3. Select search titles only
  4. Select Application Year Thread forum
  5. Select results as threads
  6. Voila!

If you wanted to see all application threads for 2022:
  1. Search threads tab
  2. Keyword "2022"
  3. Select search titles only
  4. Select Application Year Thread forum
  5. Select results as threads
  6. Voila!

Or if you wanted to see each post that mentions scholarship:
  1. Search threads tab
  2. Keyword "scholarship"
  3. Voila!

I hope that gives you some good ideas! If you have questions please let me know!
