Is the Minimum GPA a serious requirement? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

A couple of schools I'm looking at (UCLA and CUNY City College) require a 3.0 GPA. Are these serious requirements for them? I don't see it at other schools.

Thanks

Hi ag818, Hopefully a UCLA alum will jump in to answer, but in the meantime--

I don't think the school sites are lying about their requirements, but I would say this: If you are interested in the program and you do not meet the GPA requirement, reach out to the Admissions office at each school and ask what a student with a low GPA can do to qualify. Some schools will accept your application with a below-requirement GPA if you also present GRE grades that are above a certain threshold, for example.

A quick scan of UCLA Admitted Applicants on Filmschool.org shows a couple people with 2.7-2.9 GPAs, but especially if yours is lower still, it seems like a good idea to reach out.

In case you're curious, other schools have GPA requirements as well, such as LMU and Cal State.

**Assuming you're asking about MFA, but same could apply for BA/BFA

Much appreciated, I'll look into it.
