Hello everyone!
So excited to be part of the film community!
I'm Sabika, a passionate amateur filmmaker (?) from Karachi, Pakistan. I have always been passionate about stories. Tell me an emotional story and I can guarantee my heart will be moved. A touching story through visuals in film? I will 100% cry.
I studied Communication and Design from Habib University in Karachi where I managed to choose multiple film electives that were available to me. However, as I graduated, I opted for the safe route by taking up an opportunity at a corporate institution that I assumed would allow me some stability (after the extremely unstable years we spent with the pandemic). However, I soon realised that the 'safe' world I denoted to corporate felt volatile with the absence of art in my life.
I knew I would have to eventually get back to film. How do I plan to do that? To take a leap of faith, lose some stability to gain more artistic ability. I now aim to leave my corporate job, bank on my minimal savings, jump into some apprenticeships with my teachers, and apply for my master's education in film.
If anyone has been on this boat before, please share your insights or anything you wish you did before you took the jump.
The schools I wish to apply to are the following:
- AFI (dream school)
- SCAD
- SAIC
- York University
- London Film Academy
If you have any insights, especially on scholarships and funding for international students, please let me know!
Thank you for your time!
