Letters of Recommendation

Hi, I'm interested in applying to the following:
NYU, UCLA, Chapman, LMU, AFI, FSU, NYU-ASIA, Columbia, USC

I'm trying to request for Letters of Recommendation from my professors and mentors, but is it unwise to get letters from non-film related faculty members?

More specifically, i was a biology major and i pursued independent study with an eye doctor. he knows me the best as a person, but, he doesn't know very much about my filmmaking style or achievements, other than that I want to be a director in the near future.

it doesn't matter. as long as they know you well and say good things about you. I'm starting at UCLA in the fall, and I submitted one industry related rec, and 2 professional, non-industry related recs.

It might just depend on the school. I would definitely have at least one recommendation that has to do with at least your creative ability or something like that. But having someone who knows you well as a person is also good.
