LMU Housing 2018

To everyone that got into LMU, do you what your housing situation is going to be?

Hey, everyone! I've officially accepted my position for the 2018 Screenwriting Program at LMU! If anyone has any clue what their doing for housing/wants to chat, let me know! I've never been to LA and am really hoping to get as much info/know as many people as possible before I get there. Congrats to everyone!

Hey Izzy! I may need a girl to room with if you wanna chat? I was looking up student housing and the apartments seem very nice but then I realized for $1200ish you share a room in a two bedroom apt and I wouldn't want to do that unless I knew the person or I looked at all my other living options first. I also basically live in LA part time so if you have any questions I can answer those too! Congrats on your acceptance!

I honestly have a horrible experience communicating to LMU as well. I never seem to receive an answer until I email them three times the same email. It takes days. It's time consuming.

I had trouble finding the right scholarship application form as well.
For the scholarship application for this coming year (2018-2019) see this link: https://financialaid.lmu.edu/media/lmufinaid/financialaid/contentassets/documents/summer2018forms/1819 Graduate Film and TV Scholarship Application.pdf

I've been in contact with both Mary Abshire and Prof. Brancolini, multiple times, before they finally answered my emails. It also took a lot of time emailing them to remind them about the scholarship application to eventually receive an answer.
I do not know if for the Writing MFA you may have to contact a different professor... but at least now you have the link to the right application

Deadline for the scholarship application is May 1st.
hey, so what do you plan on doing about your living situation when you move to LA?

I was wondering, is anyone planning on living at Playa Del Oro?

Yeah I am for the first year. Not sure after that.
Did you do the housing application? Idk if it randomly chooses our roommate.

Yeah I did. There are questions about your general lifestyle (when you sleep, how clean you like a room), which I assume will have an influence on roommate selection. There was also an opportunity to try to request a specific person, but I didn't do that.

They’re saying Playa Del Oro is full. Did anyone figure out what they’re doing for housing?

As someone who lives in that area I wouldn't live in Playa Del Oro. It's way overpriced for what you'll get. Maybe try looking more towards Marina Del Ray (even a bit east of Lincoln) and around Abbot Kinney in Venice. Some areas of Mar Vista are beyond beautiful and very close to the school.

I lived in Palms which is next to Mar Vista. Also a good area and now there's a subway line there... But it won't take you to LMU.. just Santa Monica. My wife commuted from Palms to LMU and it was a 20 minute or so drive.

I would love to live anywhere but I would mostly be paying for rent with financial aid? I wouldn’t be able to afford anything my first year since graduate housing comes out of tuition.

Did everyone get their housing situation sorted out already?

No - I found out on Wednesday that I was put on a housing waitlist because they had so much interest this year. I was going to do Playa del Oro the first year and then figure something else out the other two years when I had a better sense of things, but I have to figure something else out now...

No not yet, I’m looking into other places since Playa del Oro was way overpriced and now full.

It’ll work out. 1/1’s in certain places in LA might come out slightly cheaper. or if you can split a 2/2 in a nicer place it’ll be worth it. Also try to see if you can get the $5k scholarship they offer. I spoke to Karol and she made it happen for me.

I’m a bit worried ‘cause I don’t that have that much money to move to LA with on top of my own bills but we just gotta trust it’ll work out.

Hi fellow lions,
I am searching for a place to stay near campus. I guess, SFTv will operate from the new playa vista building (pls correct me if I am wrong). Anyone who is staying near campus and has a bed available for one person to crash, pls let me know. In case anyone is looking for bunkmate, pls reach out. I have done some research and most of 2br, 2bath apartments near campus are available for $2600-$3000. Waiting to hear back. Thanks.
