My internet searching is limited here and I can't seem to find this but... how much collab does lmu do? This wasn't something I looked for in a program when I applied but now I'm thinking about it more.
Anyone know?

If you mean outside collab, it seemed in my interview like this was a big priority, closely knit with introducing their students to the industry. They got lots of internships, appointed mentors from the industry for each of their alumni and so on.
Collab between students is also available. You can write stuff for directors and so on, or even grip. However, they said a lot of students got carried away by gripping and eventually started missing their own deadlines big time, so gotta be careful. That's a great way to build connections with your peers, though.
That’s the sort of thing that appeals to me about a lot of these programs, AFI, Columbia, Chapman, and LMU all seem like programs developed to really “round out” a writer so to speak. Overall, that seems to help with the caliber of alumni these programs produceIf you mean outside collab, it seemed in my interview like this was a big priority, closely knit with introducing their students to the industry. Ideally I want to be on a set 12 hrs a day, despite being in a purely writing program, and give up sleep.

I agree on the playwriting aspect you mentioned, it was actually something that came up in my NYU interview where we talked about how playwrights are writing some of the more interesting films to come out in the past couple of years. My example I brought up was the film Thoroughbreds, which was originally conceived of as a playYeah, those three shorts in the first year are among my biggest pros for AFI, as well as the resulting pace and vast amounts of communication and collab.
On the other hand, a lot of great recent movies were written by playwrights or had something to do with playwriting in general. From the top of my head, that applies to Moonlight, Manchester by the sea, and all of Mcdonaugh bros movies (don't forget the other brother). Seems like focusing on all around writing also gives nice results. I guess it's just what you're able to take from each approach and utilize in your writing.

Hopefully I see you there! Here’s hoping for both of us that we are able to get into AFI
