Loyola Marymount Screenwriting - Current/Alum Students POV

Hi! I was admitted with a pretty good scholarship to LMU for the MFA Writing for the Screen program and am really excited at the prospect of the program. I'd love to hear from either screenwriting MFA track at LMU, current or past students. How is your experience? What's your biggest takeaway from LMU thus far? Is it worth it for you?

Congrats on the scholarship, that's definitely a huge plus! I went through the Writing for the Screen program and will say it was worthwhile. The fact that it's three years gives you enough time to strategize what the beginning of your career will look like, but that's also up to you and how you strategically apply to internships/submit to fellowships/write samples that'll get you read. The program has awesome professors - kind, seasoned and insightful, but again, based on what kind of scripts you'd like to finish the program with, not every professor due to their niches and style of teaching will be the right fit for you. There are also opportunities scattered throughout the year to meet with alums who are either on the exec or creative side.

Hope this was helpful!

Hey, thanks for this answer. I have one additional question for you! How was your/your peers' experience with the First Pitch event after you graduated? Do you feel as if this had any benefit to anyone's writing career, or more so just practicing marketing your work? Thanks!
