NFTS Jan 2017 entry

Hi all,

I thought it would be nice if we started a new thread to NFTS applications for the January 2017 entry.
I applied for MA Producing and submitted my application last Tuesday. Now, we can only wait to hear back from them in June.
Is there maybe anyone else around who already sent them their application?

Let me know and good luck to everyone :)

Romina

Renamed post to "NTFS Jan 2017 entry" as we should already have a "NTFS 2016" thread. If you'd rather me change it to something else please let me know.

Hi,

I've applied for the MA Directing Fiction course for 2017, submitted my application yesterday. I have no idea how much of a chance I have getting in though, all I've seen online is people getting rejected. Do you know how many people are accepted onto the MA courses?

Hi Dan

I went to the open day for Directing Fiction a few weeks ago. They said 8 people are chosen for that course. It's 8 for all the courses except scriptwriting which is 16.

ohhh nice, 8's a good number. So whats your background, why are you applying for the course?

Switched careers about 6 years ago now. Became a freelance camera operator and video editor for a newspaper and college, then decided to go back to education. Completed my undergraduate degree in media last year and then the University hired me to work on the course for a year. I've won a couple awards and prizes along the way for my short films and a short documentary. Also had screenings in the USA and Europe. The dream is to be a feature film director though and I believe somewhere like the NFTS can get me there... in a nutshell :)

How about yourself?

Sounds good! My background is fairly similar, I did my undergraduate degree in film and graduated about two years ago. Since then I've been working in the industry, mostly working in corporate videos though. I've worked for some big well known companies. However, I want to develop my skills as a fiction director so I thought I would apply!

Nice nice! Well good luck to us both.

Yes, basically 8 people are chosen for every course. They choose 32 for the interview stage, 16 for the workshop stage (I think it's a month-long workshop for directors and a week-long workshop for producers; I only went to the Open Day for MA Producing, so I'm not 100% sure about MA Directing Fiction) and then the final 8 for the course.

I did my BA in Film and Television as well and worked for two feature film producers here in London.
Good luck to you two as well! :)

Hi Folks,

I'd like to hear about the film you submitted for the MA Directing Fiction course. What is your film about? What did you shoot with? Budget? Anything really. My film is drama about a relationship triangle between a husband, wife and prostitute. We shot it on RED in September 2015 and our budget was $12,000-$15,000. We finished post in March 2016 and have not heard from any festivals yet. As I funded the film myself the whole process took almost two years. I do not have any significant industry experience, so this film is basically the centerpoint of my application (I haven't made any other films). There are some stills of it on my facebook profile if you are interested (Feel free to friend request me). I'd be interested in hearing about your application/background. Good luck to all :)!

Hi all,

I'm an advertising professional that's looking to make the switch into film. Applied to the MA Directing Fiction course with a short film I wrote, produced, and directed (on a very modest budget) specifically for the application purpose; I didn't feel comfortable including any of my ads in my portfolio.

Best of luck to everyone!
