How to Get Into NFTS, the #1 International Film School: Exclusive Advice From the Admissions Department (Part 1)

There is no other film school in the United Kingdom more notable than the National Film and Television School (NFTS), an institution renowned for producing high-profile industry players and Oscar winners since 1971. Based in Beaconsfield, a short 25 minute train journey from central London...

Hey! I applied this year. I haven't heard anything yet, I'm feeling super nervous about it. Have you applied before or is this your first time?
It's been sent to the selection panel. We just gotta wait now 🤞

It's my first time applying. Feeling confident about my odds to be invited for an interview but who knows. You?

Same, mine was sent to the selection panel a few weeks ago!

It's my third time applying, never been interviewed, but I have become a much stronger writer in the past two years (I applied in 2020 and 2021) so I'm hoping I'll make the interview this time. Looking back on my past submissions I can see why I wasn't interviewed lol.

So much of it is out of our control.. Yes they're judging our control of the craft, and they're looking at how bad we want it, etc. But also they want to select 10 students who have 10 different voices and backgrounds. Backgrounds not just in terms of where and how we grew up, but also in regard to what type of stories we want to write. They're not going to select 10 writers who all write genre films. Even if those 10 writers are all brilliant.

So there is a part of luck in the selection process. But there are positives to that as well: you're not competing against the 600 people who applied. You're competing against the applicants who have a similar voice to you and want the same type of writing career.

This is very true! I just want to know if I've got an interview or not already - waiting is so nervewracking! Hopefully we'll hear at the end of the month!

Has anyone heard back yet? I'm still 'at selection panel'

Do you know if they tell you if you've been rejected?
They do tell you if you've been rejected. Last time I applied I got an email on the 13th of July stating that I had not been chosen to be offered a place on the course.

I haven't heard yet either, but I suspect that we will all hear very soon!
