Yeah, they usually send interview invitations out at the same time, so might be bad news for the rest of us but huge congratulations and good luck @mindlessgarlic! Can I ask how many times you've applied?

Thank you!! First time applying but I'm 30 so probably a little older than most people applying not sure if that makes a difference. I heard they can stagger the invites so you never know!

Tbf i thought the same We’re cheering for mindlessgarlic now

I feel like the reason they do rejections right at the end is so they can keep their options open for interviewing people if they not a feeling the first batch, so you never know!

No news on my end either... beginning to assume if we don't hear tomorrow then it's not looking good for us cause I'm assuming if they are staggering interview invitations this year they'll do it inside the week

Nice to drop in again. I was in the tail end of last years thread as I got rejected after interview last year, trying again for a second time this year and my interview is this week!

Thought I'd share a little bit of insight into last years interview in case it might help anyone else prepare;

First I was brought into a room with a folder full of stock photos, paper and pens, and you get 30 minutes to choose one photo and write a pitch based on that photograph. Once 30 mins are up I was collected and taken to interview.

Interview started with your usual questions, like elaborating on anything you might've said in your application, and then they dive headfirst into dissecting your script. I suspect they choose deliberately challenging questions as a way to test how thoroughly you've thought about your creative decisions and this is where I struggled last year - I'd say focus much of your prep on this! Try to pinpoint any potential sticking points and have decent answers at the ready.

Finally they ask you to pitch your idea from the exercise. Again I struggled last year but my plan this year is to keep it as simple as possible. I suppose this might be a test on if you have any sense of basic storytelling under pressure!

It all ends quite abruptly after that, so I'm anticipating feeling the same kind of uncertainty about how it went, but I hope that gives an insight. Or they may have totally changed the whole process this year, in which case, this helps none of you!

Has anyone else applied multiple times and not been interviewed? I felt like my application was really strong both last year and this year. I've heard the NFTS can have a bit of age bias, but I'm in my late twenties now... I dunno. I just really wish they'd give us feedback on our applications.

I know they were doing interviews last week. But there's always a chance they do more based on who they've seen so far.

Sorry to hear that!

That paragraph is something that seems to be standard. However, it has happened in the past that they follow up to suggest a different course that might be better suited, if they think you're barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.

I'd say to anyone in this thread that's disappointed this year to have a look at doing some kind of short, screenwriting related evening class between now and the next intake. NFTS has one itself called "Finding Your Voice", and while it didn't guarantee anything, I think it was huge factor in helping me get me my first interview last time simply because it made me a better writer.

Not trying to sound like an advert, but the more you can do to prove to them you are serious about doing this the better.

Hi not yet, but taking a look at last years forum they didn't find out until 2 weeks after the interview, so well see! Although I'm not feeling overly confident to be honest!
