Temple vs. Emerson

Hi all. I know it is still early in the admissions process but before I get to my issue I would just like to announce that I was accepted into both Temple and Emerson and that my SAT Scores were a mere 1100 and my GPA a 3.1. So, to be honest, I am pretty sure my portfolio got me into both schools. So whoever is sweating over applications, I would advise those to simply relax.

Okay so now, I am curious as to which people think would provide me with a better education in film production, Temple University or Emerson College? I have seen both. Overall, Philly is nicer than Boston and not as cold, but both provide great places to shoot and I have no problem with the ghetto of Philadelphia haha. However, I have heard that Temple is ranked within the top 10 of all film schools nationwide and is well-known for its hands-on learning and so on and so forth whereas I have heard little about Emerson's reputation. Although I don't have any financial issues, Temple is also half the price. So, I am struggling to discover any valuable reason as to why I should choose Emerson over Temple. (aside from the fact that emerson just looks prettier).

So the question is... Temple or Emerson?

DEBATE!

I'm sorry for not answering the main question at hand here, but was that 1100 out of 2400?

Also, how long was the film that you submitted in your portfolio?

My portfolio consisted of 4 short pieces I've done that altogether equaled around 10 minutes or so. And my sat was not including the written portion. But if it suits you to know I had a 1700/2400.

Anyways, back to the topic.

Temple or Emerson?

I have a friend who goes to Temple for film and she hates it. She was telling me they expect you to know how to do everything. Like she doesn't even have an editing class, they just expect her to know how to edit and use the software I guess. I don't know anything about Emerson really, but from what I know, I'd steer clear of Temple.

lol yes. I have been to both cities. Philadelphia is just more appealing to me.

Is there anyone else who can say anything comparing the two schools?

Ive been accepted to Temple for film (undergrad) and i'm waiting to hear back from Emerson because i applied regular.
RAB: you say that temple is known for being hands on, well i know that emerson is too. i've talked to senior at emerson and he says that your start shooting movies and working with cameras as soon as you get there, and that the courses tend to be a let down since you already know soo much from being out in the field making movies all the time. Of course, that doesnt mean everyone is making movies 24/7, only those who choose to, but it sounds like both temple and emerson are hands on. As far as the overall education:

Temple has maaany more students than emerson and is, as you know, an actual university which could provide you with a greater range of options than emerson...for instance idk if emerson has many courses in psychology or philosophy..or ANY courses in math or science at all...check up on that if you want a decently rounded education.

Sports:
Temple obviously has a lot more sports and is quite good at male and female basketball- emerson is lacking here big time. Ive visited emerson and it does have a pretty nice gym tho (all of its buildings are quite nice)

Location: stuff can be said about both cities (philly and boston)...but i think what it comes down to is the fact that temple is known to be in a quite dangerous area of philly (although i know the campus itself is safe, just the surrounding parts a bit dangerous) Emerson is right across from a fairly large park and i havent visited temple yet so idk about its surroundings.

But anyway, the big difference for me may be the fact that emerson kids are known as a bit artsy and strange (its a much smaller and focused arts school)...but of course that doesnt mean all of the kids are like that-thats just what i hear.

temple is def. cheaper but you already know that stuff, so it comes down to what type of people you want to be around, how much gen. education you want, want kind of scene in general you want to be in---both schools sound quite good (temple may have better equipment from the sound of it tho)...so its up to you

o btw..both schools also have a film program in LA for about a semester and it seems to be very similar programs ...but i think emerson has more options for studying abroad (prague and maybe france and england, i dont remember) while temple has only london and japan...

research youself tho cuz im not completely sure.

hope this helps
