TISCH 2011 hopefuls lets nail-bite together!

hey... (dont mean to sound rude) for starters - lets not create newer threads for the same thing... the forum has become really scattered ...
there have been 3 threads on NYU in the last few days...

anyway... its going to be quite a wait... and it will be best for me to temporarily forget i applied to NYU... the more i will think about it the more i will worry... best of luck to all of you fellow applicants !

I had done some research on graduate personal statement research and I could certainly have been mislead, but I found that it's completely acceptable to keep them between 500-1000 words(as with Yale, etc.).

I also called the school's admissions office and asked about an appropriate length and got the response "about 2 pages, double spaced."

hi newman,

that was really short, compared to others, i believe. but if you can do a good job withing those words i dont think it would be an issue.

EB, you made it pretty long, i think most people would submit in the bracket off 1.5 to 2 .. mine was about 2.3, had to edit it brutally

you guys submitted video or photographs, post link if you guys want others to see ...

They asked for two, so I submitted two. There were explicit instructions not to provide more materials than asked for. I am the kind of filmmaker that colors between the lines and does what I'm told. I do not seek that which is beyond the little box that is my world.

Out of curiosity: Tisch accepts 36 applications per year...

What percentage of people do you think actually 'make it' in cinema?

Fifth year? Have you been adding a lot to your portfolio?

Has anyone gotten a chance to check out some of my work (posted previously)? I don't really know how it stacks up around here.

I do feel relatively confident about my portfolio, but it'll have to be that much better to overshadow my sub-par GPA.

My close friend from high school, Miles, went to Tisch for undergraduate acting. Turned out to be my film that helped him land his role in the upcoming 'Rabbit Hole' film with Nicole Kidman.

The fact that he gained skills and connections necessary at the school to succeed the way he did is what initially interested me in applying to NYU for film. After reading further and speaking with people from the program I really couldn't be more excited about it- *fingers crossed*. Not to mention I love New York and it seems to be by far the most effective film school on the East Coast.

If anyone hasn't seen the trailer for that 'Rabbit Hole' I highly recommend... you'll see Miles toward the end, on the bench speaking with her.
