UCLA scenic design vs AFI production design

Hi everyone,

My name is Hazel, and I am from South Korea.
This year, I got accepted into both UCLA for scenic design and AFI for Production Design.
However, I am finding it challenging to decide where to go, and I was hoping someone could help me out.

While I want to go to UCLA, I am concerned that they may not offer a film-centric education like AFI.
Specifically, I am curious about how they work together with cinematographers and directors, given that the Film, Television & Digital Media departments are separated.
I am interested in studying production design more than scenic design.
(I have a BFA in film, and I want to focus more on the film aspect while still learning about scenic design.)

Can someone please share their experience with the educational system at UCLA or AFI?
I would greatly appreciate your insights.

Thank you!

Hi Hazel!
I’m also from korea accepted for directing program for 2024.
I have been connecting with afi korean fellows on instagram. Maybe this is something you would be interested in?
Since I was told some of them are in production design
