USC Film Production BFA 2024

The vast majority of information on these threads seems to be around MFA programs. I think that can be a little confusing to those of us who have applied to BFA programs. I have applied to the BFA program at USC SCA and received an interview last week. The interview went well. It seems that the purpose of the BFA interview is different from the MFA interview. Does anyone have experience or knowledge about what getting an interview as a BFA applicant means? Is there anything I can read into receiving that interview? Thanks.

Hi @sals ! I interviewed with USC undergrad back in 2019 (so the process could be completely different now), but our interview was over the phone, with an alum, and it was geared towards a general conversation about what you're passionate about in film. It was VERY conversational, so I would not worry! Honestly, it was pretty fun to have someone to ask questions to who went to USC, so take advantage of the opportunity to talk one-on-one with a film alum. Go in being yourself and conveying your passion, and you will do great. I would prepare questions such as "Why film school?" and "Why USC?" and "What direction do you think you want to go in as of right now?" At the end of the day, interviews are much more about seeing how you talk about your work, and putting a personality to the name. You're going to do great!

*An edit: I re-read and realized you said you DID already have your interview! Well I would take that as a good sign that they wanted to get to know you more. Definitely recommend attending the "admissions day" in April (can't remember what they call it) but essentially you get to shadow a current student & learn about the program
