Hi! As most people on this site I’m nervous as hell about the application process and was hoping I could get a bit of feedback on my personal statement to SCA’s BFA film production program. Would be insanely appreciated since the deadline is in a week and want to make some last minute changes before hitting send!

Hey, this is a good first draft, but just a couple things:

1- you’re telling far too much. Each paragraph starts with you telling something about yourself. Show it instead. Find ways to paint a picture in their minds.

2- I’d make it less about filmmaking/storytelling. The whole essay is pretty much geared around that. A couple years back there was an interview with an admissions counselor (it’s somewhere in this site), where that counselor said that the best or most interesting essays normally don’t focus fully around film. Normally they just touch on it, but focus on a completely unrelated experience/topic.
