Hi, everyone!
First off, I want to say that I'm aware that this is a great problem to have, but I still want to ensure that I make the right choice, so any input is appreciated.
My ideal career goal would be to be a television showrunner or upper-level television writer/producer. I have a BFA in screenwriting from NYU and a good amount of screenwriting experience, but very little education and limited professional experience in creative producing. This, combined with the shaky state of employment in the television industry right now, led me to seek out an MFA in producing, and I have been accepted into both USC and AFI's programs for fall 2025 entry.
My question is, which program will serve me better as an aspiring showrunner? I know neither program is focused on writing (which is fine, as I already have that degree), but I think my decision will come down to which program can better prepare me for the showrunner path, via the curriculum as well as things like connections, internship opportunities, and production experience. I'm planning to attend both schools' admitted student sessions and ask faculty directly, but I would love as much insight as possible so any thoughts would be appreciated!
