Why not talk to an advisor who knows the business?

This is a great forum. In my opinion the most formidable challenge to figuring out where (or if) to go to film school is that the realities of maintaining a career as a filmmaker once you're out of school are rarely covered accurately in the classroom, and never in programs' promotional materials.

I'm a working filmmaker in Los Angeles who attended a prestigious graduate film program almost ten years ago. I've counseled dozens of film school applicants about film school and establishing a career in film, and hope to help many more make informed decisions about film as a career. I charge a small fee for an hour-long consultation, and if you are not completely satisfied I will refund your money.

My background includes:
- a graduate degree from a prestigious film program;
- awards for my film work (including a Student Academy Award);
- almost ten years working a as filmmaker on everything from experimental shorts, to large studio features, to music videos, to Porsche commercials;
- experience hosting film production workshops and full courses for film students and industry professionals;
- a Fulbright Fellowship where I taught at film schools overseas and worked with local filmmakers
- experience working with students at most of the major film schools (including Columbia, CalArts, USC, AFI, UT Austin, Stanford's Documentary Program, VGIK, UCLA, etc.).

Film school is too expensive not to seek out advice from someone who has been there--I wish I had done this. I make my living in the film industry, and if you're interested in learning more about what a film career is like in the real world and how film school can help, I'd love to hear from you.

Film school can be an incredible experience. Let me help you make the most of it.

Best wishes,

Thomas
