Thanks to our many members, the FilmSchool.org Application Database and Tracker consists of over 4,000 applications that date back to 2015, making it one of the most advantageous tools on the website. Its basic function is to track film schools’ rates of acceptance, minimum GPAs, accepted test scores, in addition to each program's many notification and decision dates.
It’s been a long, windy road. I only applied to two programs for Film and the rest were MA/PhD programs. The UCLA application is simpler in nature, I’d just suggest really taking the writing sample seriously. If I can offer any advice, it’d be to write from something you know that you can...
It was great, all fine. Had to do something called the Kira Assessment, which, no going to lie was a little daunting, because you are answering timed interview questions but without anyone on the other side, just... recording yourself. I did it after work and swore I bombed it but I guess they...
Application was intense, spent a lot of time working on this one. Was pretty sad when I was denied after having an interview, but competition is tough.
This application was the easiest one I completed since there were no visual samples required. Heard back about admission in just over a week after applying.
Application process was pretty straightforward. I spent a couple months working on my application materials, and then heard back about an interview in February, and found out about acceptance on March 29.
First time applicant! I graduated undergrad in June 2022 and applied for Fall 2024 entry. I was waitlisted and learned about the decision much later than other programs. I'm really bummed about it as Columbia was my top choice, but I'm going to reapply!
This was a pretty straightforward application and it was definitely a quicker process than many others schools.
I'm currently waitlisted at UT, which isn't surprising considering they only take 7 new students per cohort. I'm holding my breath until the end! We're supposed to hear back by April 18.
This was a pretty involved application since you need to attach all the general materials in addition to a script sample (15-20 pages long) and a PDF doc linking all of your video works you'd like to share.
I was admitted after a really good 20-30 minute interview in which we talked about my...

University of Georgia - Master of Fine Arts in Film, Television and Digital Media
The application was relatively simple and the early deadline was a couple months later than most other schools so you can give some good focus to it.
I was admitted and granted some pretty good scholarships but unfortunately the price was still too high for me to attend in good conscience.
It has gone really fast so far. I got most of the stuff done within a week and got an interview for the following week after. The interview I think went well but I’m not so sure. We will see I guess. This was the only school I applied to for production design.
The film art school application process has been smooth and exciting, Had to write a personal statement and an artistic statement. I honestly had a lot of fun being at the interview.
Never got an interview, so I really just applied and it was radio silence until they emailed me that I did not get in. I submitted really early and was fairly confident in my application. One of my letters of rec was from an acclaimed screenwriter who went to UCLA for his BFA and MFA, so I did...
Never got an interview, so I really just applied and it was radio silence until they emailed me that I did not get in. I submitted really early and was fairly confident in my application, but I didn't want to continue with a screenwriting education all that much so I wasn't too torn up about this.
Never got an interview, so I really just applied and it was radio silence until they emailed me that I did not get in. I submitted really early and was fairly confident in my application (I did get into USC), but ultimately I wanted to move into directing and away from screenwriting.
Fully expected not to get in here. I did get my hopes up that I might get interviewed after being interviewed at USC, but never heard back. Great school and I wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway!
Never got an interview, so I really just applied and it was radio silence until they emailed me that I did not get in. I submitted really early and was fairly confident in my application (I did get into USC). Pretty bummed because this was definitely one of my top schools.
