Unlike production-first schools, the University of Rochester focuses on the history, theory, and criticism of the moving image. It is designed for the student who wants to understand why movies work and their impact on society, rather than just how to operate a cinema camera. However, because of the school’s unique "Rochester Curriculum," students have immense freedom to "cluster" or double-major in areas like Digital Media Studies, Music, or English to build a custom, well-rounded education.
