I had a lot of fun writing for the prompts and requirements. I think Columbia places a heavy emphasis on social drama... I wrote about a Tibetan love story for my 10 pages screenplay but when they asked me if this is the type of film I want to produce, I said no... Hahahaha. And then I pitched...
Second time applying after not getting an interview last year. Interview went very well (almost too well). Talked extensively about my personal statement and general mandate as a filmmaker.
Very smoothly. When I received the interview notification, I was excited. But in the interview, I was too nervous to do my best. Be relaxed. It is most important thing in the interview.
This was my second time applying to Columbia and I honestly think my application was better off because I had gone through the process once earlier. Learnt a lot from that experience and hopefully applied it well to the second time around.
Definitely was crunched on time - submitted my application with barely seconds left before the deadline. Wrote most of the application in just two days. I work well under pressure haha.
Columbia's deadline was the last of any of my schools, which gave me time to hone the application. The info session I attended was a tad off-putting, but the curriculum seems good and I appreciate the inclusion of a film treatment in the requirements.
Required Materials:
- 3 Letters of Recommendation (all of mine were from professors I had in production courses, but I think a professional rec would've been good.
- Dramatic Writing Sample (page limit of three iirc)
- Film Prompt
- Film Treatment (not gonna lie, it was hard to get this down...
I am just now adding this to the database, but finished the application a few weeks ago. The application went pretty well. I really enjoyed writing the material for it. I don't feel awesome about my autobiographical essay and think that it definitely could've used a lot of workshopping and...
I started the application in June of this year. I think it's better to have more time to send your creative materials to others for feedback. It also gives you time to digest what you have written. :):)
I'm an international applicant and I did not submitted an english proficiency test. My 4...
Honestly not too good because I felt rushed. So many things outside of my application was taking away time I needed to focus on my application.
Also I feel that my creativity was evident but the writing may not have been very polished. This was due to the fact that I didn’t have anyone to give...
Hi folks, I've created a thread for Columbia University's Creative Producing MFA. Feel free to comment anything related to this program here! I'm applying this year.
Lots of writing! Proud of both of the screenplays I wrote (the film prompt and the dramatic writing sample). Fitting the feature film treatment on a single double-spaced page in Courier font was difficult, but I got it in the end. I wish the autobiographical essay had more of a prompt.
