I just want to clarify that when I asked if you thought about skipping college I asked because you don't seem that interested in it. It seems you like film and that is all. So why waste your time forcing yourself to take classes you don't want to take just so you can get a degree most employers...
There are a million things you can do. But it depends on what you want to do in the industry. Have you thought about not going to college and start working right away in the industry?
Congratulations on your acceptance! I called a couple film schools years ago and asked them about this exact problem since my GPA was horrible. They told me that they accept their students based on talent, not grades. If the University rejects an applicant based on GPA but they are talented...
C. Anna Belly, the interviewers are different and I'm sure the questions are different. Sorry. :( I would definitely prepare for why Columbia and why do you want to be a writer/director.
Hey everyone, I was accepted in the Creative Producing program last year. I can give some insight on the process if you PM me. I'm at Chapman now so I can only give advice on the interview, not the program.
The JD/MFA is a 4-year program not a 3-year. MBA/MFA is more geared towards people that want to work as an exec. in Marketing/Finance/Strategy for a "movie" (generic because it includes production, distribution, etc.) company or agency. Or if you want to start your own production company but...
I love how candid this conversation is! I totally agree with you, Dj, but there is no shame in becoming an assistant. No one wants to be an assistant when they are in film school but it is the fall back plan that everyone falls back on. But there are two types of assistants. One that is waiting...
I think what he meant is that the Creative Producing degree is broad within the industry. You can be a creative/indie producer (duh), line producer, AD, UPM, agent, etc. A lot of producers from film school go on to these careers because they excel at them and you find that out in film school as...
I won't be working. If anything I'll look for an internship or work on campus. I've worked for the restaurant industry for a decade and I hope that when I quit in August I will never serve another customer again.
If I could do it again I would get a degree in Business and a minor in film. If that doesn't interest you, a lot of people I work with in the industry have a degree in creative writing.
The reason I say business is because the industry is a business and you need to learn how to sell yourself...

So true! I still have that "what if" about my undergrad school choice and I know I will always have that with my grad school. I ended up choosing Chapman over Columbia, but I had to think about my future and what was the best fit for what I want to do.
If I had to choose between a directing...
Has anyone at Chapman heard about any updates on the filmmakers village? It was big news a couple years ago. Here is an article on it: http://www.ocmetro.com/t-Chapman-plans-Fimmakers-Village-12-02-2011.aspx
