Interesting read. If students used to have an optional 3rd year, I could understand how that would make it difficult for graduating 2nd years and 1st year who want to graduate after 2 years, get all of their requirements out of the way. Our workshops are limited to 8 students max and we're on...
I can only speak to the MFA Screenwriting Program. We have a student rep for each of our two cohorts who meet with faculty and staff at the end of each quarter to discuss any issues/grievances within the program. They are always interested and we have felt heard.
I don't think a 3rd year is possible. The two-year program consists of a total of 6 quarters. Most have all their requirements out of the way by the end of their 5th quarter. As @futuretelevisionwriter02 noted, the max is 7 quarters, which would mean one additional quarter after the two year...
I should note that there are opportunities to take TV classes for feature track students like me. I’ll be writing my 4th pilot and bible in the spring quarter.
If the FTV department has recommended you to the graduate admission then they consider you accepted into the program, pending University Admissions can confirm you hold a Bachelor's degree. So-- yes! Congrats!
@futuretelevisionwriter02 Congratulations on your acceptances. You seem to have a handle on the pros/cons and Chris offers good advice. Yes, I'm a 2nd year Screenwriting MFA at UCLA and happy to chat further if you want to PM me.
@Chris W A couple years ago UCLA started two different tracks for...
I’m very excited to start the Screenwriting MFA program at UCLA this fall. With classes just 3 days a week, I’m looking for a part-time job to fill a couple days and make some extra money. Would love to find something that’s relaxed, with the hope I can write while on the job - though those jobs...
Congrats on both! Not sure which program you've been accepted to, but someone on a USC thread said they attended an admitted students event at the end of last month, and it was said scholarship funds had been disbursed. Never know though!
Accepted students must give their response by tomorrow. By Monday, they will know how many slots are available and I suspect anyone who hasn’t heard will hear on Tues or Wed of next week. Just my guess. Hang in there!
Ucla has an event for admitted students tomorrow. They probably hope decisions will be made afterwards, freeing up spots currently in limbo. The deadline for admitted students to respond is April 15th so more decisions will likely go out the following week. My best guess, based on the info I have.
This is just my opinion based on learning more about the programs and my application/interview processes-- I think these MFA programs are small, competitive, and they’re looking to elevate the work prospective students are already doing. They want to know after leaving their program, the...
Hi! Sorry, that’s super frustrating. My best guess is they are still considering you, but waiting to hear back from other applicants to see if they have a spot for you. And then they’ll send you their decision. My notification and all UCLA communications since have gone to spam, so definitely...
I received an email to check the portal and it was posted there: "An update has been made regarding your application to one of LMU’s graduate programs. Please visit the Application Status Page for further details."
