Cinematical, you don't know if you were very close or very far from getting into production... they don't release that information.
However, in my opinion, based on everything that's been said in this discussion so far, you should go to Chapman, then try to transfer to USC production at the end...
ok, so i just got the saturday at the square letter, so i'm assuming that i got in since it says "admitted tisch class of 2011."
now here's the dilemma:
i also got accepted to usc, but not as a production major. i can transfer, but its not a guarantee, whereas with nyu i know i'll be doing...
i would say chapman based on the fact that it is an up and coming film program and by the time he graduates, it'll be pu there with usc and nyu as far as the industry is concerned. studios will know by then what chapman students have to offer, and he should have chances close to usc or nyu of...
the critical studies diploma at usc says the exact same thing as the production diploma, but your son will lack core production classes and experience on set if he goes in that direction. chapman is a very good school for production especially with all the new resources they have. he could get a...
after graduating at nyu with a major in film, where does one go to work? pa on a set in ny? la? please tell me about what most people do after graduating... i want to be secure financially.
i have a really close friend who goes to academy of art in san francisco for film production and she LOVES IT! it basically like a conservatory or vocational school, so you'll learn all the tricks of the trade, but it doesn't necessarily have all the connections that a usc or nyu would have.
what exactly is the chronological cirriculum for nyu? i'm basically asking this question for two reasons... 1) i want to know when i will have a camera in my hand, and 2) my plan is to make a thesis-like short for sundance and other festivals, to get my name out in the industry. my main concern...
i have a jewish friend who's a sophmore there and another christian one who's applied there... from what i hear there's manageable equipment and you have a lot of freedom, just be sure to watch the content a bit.
your resume is very similar to mine.
for nyu you've got a pretty good shot... as long as your essays and portfolio is sound you're fine.
as far as usc goes, its all about the essays. can't really evaluate anything other than that.
you're in chapman... dont worry about it.
for the tisch dramatic writing part of the application, it says "no longer than 4 pages." mine is 2 and a half, and i feel i can write very little more on the subject (although I feel what I have is very good). does it matter that it is over a page shorter than the limit?
this is the definition of a stupid film.
1. i could barely get through the whole thing. i found myself wanting to turn it off after about a minute.
2. there is little if any plot. you gotta have a story if you want to be a filmmaker.
3. i dont know one person who would find this entertaining.
i talked to susan carnivan from nyu a couple months ago about this and she said its okay to have copyrighted music in the portfolio film BUT ONLY in the portfolio film and nothing else.
good luck
