If you don’t get a scholarship to attend USC I would advise against going. It’s too much money to throw away for a school with so many problems. The first year is remedial film. If you’ve ever taken film before, it’s useless. 6 units are devoted to critical studies, which at the time of writing...
Let’s not even start with the lack of diversity in the faculty or even the movie choices that teachers are familiar with. Looking for a school well versed in non-American film? Look elsewhere.
To be fair to swiss app, you will get connections at school and if you are lucky and talented enough, you’ll be able to get opportunities. At the end of the day, if you are low income, I would not recommend coming, since it’s possible you will leave with crippling debt and that’s a lot to...
If you’ve ever done film before, the whole first year is a waste of time taught by adjunct professors. Think “this is three point lighting”. If you know nothing about film, it will serve you well, but it’s definitely not a professional program based on my experience so far. Also the program...
I think you should follow what your gut is telling you. But let me tell you a story. One of my friends is a successful filmmaker that went to UT Austin. He was able to hone his craft, but eventually he had to move to LA, where the work is. When he moved out here, guess what? His connections were...
I currently attend USC and while there are things I would change about our program, I would say being in a city like a Los Angeles or New York would be a big benefit in your career development. While I’m sure you will do good things in a Texas, the fact of the matter is that LA is a city built...
I would look into Government loan schemes. I see Australia has quite a few. Perhaps you can see if you qualify for any of those? I'm looking everywhere for loans, and you'll be surprised how much money there is out there if you look for it!
For those of you who didn't get in, don't worry and...
Congrats everyone!
@ the people who have been accepted. Would you like to make another private group or thread for housing? I'm living overseas, so I can't really just up and check out LA apartments. Would be good to room with other SCA people, I don't really care about gender.
@Chris W is...
It’s definitely an interview, but not formal or super crazy, they’re looking for personality I believe. I assume calls are scheduled for international applicants, but not ones in the similar time zones.
Still haven't gotten an any requests, I don't think they've even watched my film yet, so I think they're still going through the apps (I hope)
BTW are you guys talking about the MFA or BA?
