Jayimess -- Got a question for you about loans. On our FAFSA forms we had to choose between full or part time. I chose full time (15+ units). Now that I see I'll only be taking the ten or twelve units required for the degree, I'm not sure what my status will be. I'm concerned only because...

    USC '09

Yeah, but if you look at the requirements per semester, it adds up to 12 units. Which adds up to a little over Jayimess's $25K figure. But that $47K number is terrifying. Jayimess? You wanna weigh in and ease all our minds?

Jayimess -- What's the parking situation? You park at the Shrine? Do students get/pay for parking permits to park in the big parking garages on campus? If so, any idea what they cost?

    USC orientation

There are a couple of options: USC owned housing and USC managed housing. USC managed is easier to get, I think. I was just out there a week or so ago and wandered around the neighborhood. It's not so bad. Everybody has bars on the windows, which tells you something, and if I were a 20...

There's "Crafty TV Writing", by Alex Epstein. It's a good overview of the whole process. And Pamela Douglas, who teaches at USC, has one called "Writing the TV Drama Series" which is very good. Epstein also has a good website: http://complicationsensue.blogspot.com/

    Cost of school

Suzako... I'm looking through my NYU acceptance stuff. The only thing I see regarding health insurance is that every student must have it and that a plan is available through NYU. Following the web address they give, it looks like comprehensive coverage is $2170/year -- or it was last year...

    Cost of school

Suzako, does NYU provide health insurance to MFA students? That'd be great if they did, but I haven't heard anything about it.

financial aid package question - NYU/Columbia

I'm pretty sure NYU doesn't have graduate assistantships anymore. Work/study, I think you have to apply for. I believe there's a campus employment website.

    nyu/usc

Hey, anybody else accepted to both MFA programs in screenwriting? I'm trying to see how people are choosing. I'm visiting both, talking to students and professors in both, and they seem to have different strengths. Both seem good, though. Anybody have any thoughts?

Yeah, give them a call. They say it's just a meet and greet, but the invitation is for accepted students, current students and faculty. Might as well go if you can.

Lemme tell you, more years don't make you smarter, just tired-er. And a little more wary of credit cards.

You should have gotten an invite with the rest of the stuff. It's on April 2, 7pm, at 721 Broadway, 7th floor.

Dang. Wish I could. I have to work. I'm also missing the do at USC on April 3rd (I got in there too). I have one of those jobs where "you have to be there" means YOU HAVE TO BE THERE.

    USC Fall 2009

I hope you do too, Jayimess! I hope we all do. As for age, any guess as to the average age of the screenwriting students? I was born before Nixon was president. Ouch.

    USC Fall 2009

Thanks, Jayimess. I'm choosing between NYU and USC. NYU's offering about 30%, but I have no idea if more is available over time. With rents and so on cheaper in LA, I could probably save that by moving there. Plus, I'd love a break from New York's winters. I know both are going to put me in...

Jayimess -- Annenberg aside, are there scholarship opportunities once the first semester is past? Do most folks end up paying the full amount for all four semesters?
